3G Increases Incentives to "Pave the Way" for 4G Technology

4G network is coming to Vietnam, making the wireless communication network more dynamic than ever. Promotions and 3G network services are being tripled by carriers to stimulate the service usage market. At the same time, positive steps are being taken to deploy the 4G network, opening a new era for Vietnam's communication network.

Great promotions for 3G networks

Carriers like Vinaphone and MobiFone have tripled the data volume of their packages while keeping the prices the same. Vinaphone's BIG 300 package costs only 300,000 VND and offers up to 10GB of high-speed data for one month. Similarly, the BIG 70 package remains at 70,000 VND but the monthly data has increased from 600MB to 1.6GB. Additionally, there's the M200 package for 200,000 VND offering 5.5GB of high-speed data. With MobiFone, the M70 package has increased data from 600MB to 1.6GB.

"This move is not only good for carriers but also greatly benefits customers. This should have been done a long time ago, not implemented only now," said a telecommunications network expert in Vietnam.

3G package data will triple

Right now, the three largest carriers in Vietnam, Viettel, Mobifone, and Vinaphone, have all successfully deployed the 4G network in some regions. According to a report to the Ministry of Information and Communications, Viettel achieved network speeds of 40-80Mbps/s, 7 times faster than 3G. In some places with ideal environments and conditions, speeds can reach 230Mbps. Alongside this, Vinaphone achieved 600Mbps/s, and Mobifone achieved 225Mbps/s. This report serves as a basis for requesting the Ministry of Information and Communications to grant licenses for carriers to deploy the 4G network nationwide.

As the 4G network gets closer, carriers are in the final sprint phase, and all deployment preparations must be meticulously prepared. Test results are only for a concentrated area; when deployed nationwide, the density of broadcast towers and terrain will be different from the tested areas, requiring more careful calculation to ensure stable network transmission and speeds as reported.

According to carriers, the deployment of the 4G network will usher in a new era for the nation's telecommunications technology. Users can take advantage of the powerful speed of the 4G network to perform tasks such as Live Streaming, watching HD movies, etc., which were not possible with 3G.

Whether 4G attracts customers depends on the pricing

In a recent interview, a representative of the Military Telecommunications Corporation Viettel stated that 4G prices will not be more expensive than 3G. This would be wonderful if 4G data transfer speeds live up to the promises.

To achieve this, VNPT suggests that the Ministry of Information and Communications should grant licenses to carriers to deploy 4G on the golden frequency band of 700MHz, which will save businesses hundreds of billions in operating costs. Therefore, the Ministry of Information and Communications needs to consider and promptly implement the recovery of this frequency band after the digital television transition.

4G network fares will not be more expensive than 3G network

In that situation, the Ministry has also considered and decided to grant licenses to network operators to deploy 4G networks by the end of 2016, after which network operators will also have to spend at least another year to upgrade their infrastructure before they can popularize 4G networks.

One last thing users should consider is that with such fast 4G speeds, monthly data usage will skyrocket. If a few hundred MB of data plans were enough before, switching to 4G will require gigabytes of data. If network operators do not offer larger data plans, they will not be able to persuade users to switch to 4G.

Currently, with the outstanding development of smartphones today, most smartphones support 4G technology. Samsung, Microsoft, Oppo... all integrate 4G technology, while Apple requires network operators to register with the company for Apple to support this technology.
